At-Home Testing via Telehealth: Step-by-Step Guide to Patient Collection

Getting to a collection site is often the hardest part of a drug test. Our telehealth workflow removes that trip. With an observed drug test through a HIPAA-compliant virtual collection tool, the patient completes an oral swab collection at home while a collector watches on live video.

1. Kit Ships to the Patient

Acutis works with each clinic to ship collection kits directly to patients, with everything needed for collection and return.

2. Patient Joins Acutis’ Teletox Collection Portal

The patient accesses Acutis’ secure Teletox portal, enters their information, and connects with a collector via video call.

3. Observed Collection and Sealing

With the collector observing, the patient completes the oral swab drug test, also called a saliva or mouth swab drug test, and seals the package on camera.

4. Return and Tracking

The patient ships the sealed kit back to Acutis, and every kit is tracked through to its arrival at the lab.

The patient collection process

Why This Matters for Treatment Centers

A virtual drug test can keep monitoring on track for patients who live far from a collection site or receive care through telehealth. Each collection is observed and documented, and clinics get the same turnaround time and service promised to our existing clients. See how practices set this up in How Providers Set Up a Telehealth Collection Account.

A Quick Compliance Note

Providers remain responsible for HIPAA, state rules and federal telemedicine requirements, including the Ryan Haight Act and DEA telehealth rules. Observed collection supports, but does not replace, clinical judgment.
